10th Annual Dancing with Savannah Stars
A Fundraiser to Benefit the Children of CASA
“To give a child a CASA volunteer is to give them a voice. To give them a voice is to give them hope, and to give them hope is to give them the world.” Help give a voice to abused and neglected children – support Savannah/Chatham Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Inc. during our 10th Annual Dancing with Savannah Stars fundraiser on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 7pm in the Lucas Theatre.
In our society the basic needs and rights of children are entrusted to their families, but when the family—for whatever reason—is unable to meet those obligations, our most vulnerable children are placed in the foster care and child welfare system.
That system is full of compassionate lawyers, judges, social workers and foster families, but according to recent statistics each year more than 800,000 children are placed in foster care nationally — over 300 in our county alone. This intense need can strain the system to the point where they are simply unable to protect the rights of each child. This isn’t just a problem it is nothing short of a violation of their basic human rights, in a country where we aren’t supposed to have to fear such things.
That is where a CASA volunteer comes in! CASA is a national nonprofit organization which trains and supports volunteers to speak out and act as advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children. They are trained to work within the child welfare and family court systems and are appointed by judges to individual cases. With the help of a CASA volunteer, a child is half as likely to languish in the foster care system, and that much more likely to find a safe and permanent home.
Savannah/Chatham CASA is committed to making sure that every child in need has access to a CASA volunteer. Funds raised from our annual fundraiser assists us with the training and management of additional volunteers to serve as a consistent adult figure and voice for vulnerable children in our foster care system. Our annual event offers community members an opportunity to help in the fight against child abuse.
Every dollar from this event stays in Chatham County. Donors have the security of knowing that when you make donation to this event you are changing the lives of the children in our community.
